Our History

1933
Shortly after prohibition (1933) Andrew and Grace Hengstler started the Ludington Beverage Company, located in the small community of Ludington along the shores of Lake Michigan.  After Andrew passed away in 1937, Leo C. Reed and Vera Reed purchased the business and started their journey in the beer industry.

1949
Twelve short years later in 1949, Milan (Bud) and Dorothy Reed joined the company and worked side by side for forty-two years.  During these years Bud and Dorothy made many wonderful contributions to Ludington Beverage, Anheuser-Busch and the local communities that they lived in and served.

1971
In 1971 the company grew to a size that required moving locations and building a new warehouse still located in Ludington.  The beer business has continued to expand and grow

1973
Over the past 20 years, Ludington Beverage has gone through seven more expansions resulting in their current facility.  During this time of transition and change in the industry, the third generation of Reed’s, Milan (Budde) Reed II, began his career at Ludington Beverage in 1973 working alongside his parents.  Much like his mom and dad, Budde has been a leader in all aspects of the business, the industry, and the communities that we serve.
